The Hyundai Elantra and the Toyota Corolla are often compared as similarly sized cars designed for drivers wanting fuel efficiency, comfort and safety. The Elantra with a five-speed manual transmission is rated for 33 mpg on the highway and 24 mpg in the city. An Elantra with an automatic transmission is rated for 33 mpg on the highway and 25 mpg in the city. The Corolla is rated for 34 mpg on the highway and 26 mpg in the city, regardless of transmission type.

    Prices for the Hyundai Elantra range from $14,120 to $18,600, depending on trim levels. Toyota Corollas start and $17,250 and go up with more luxurious trim levels,
