The 1997 Mazda Miata is a two-seat convertible roadster that is as economical as it is fun to drive, achieving an estimated 29 mpg on the highway and 23 mpg in the city. Introduced in 1989, when the manufacture of small sporty roadsters had slowed to a trickle, the Miata remains one of the world's best selling convertibles to this day.

Exterior

    Exterior specifications include impact-absorbing front and rear bumpers that are the same color of the body of the vehicle. The Mazda Miata has a soft-top convertible roof that is manual with a soft storage cover. The door mirrors are adjustable externally on both the driver and passenger side and are the same color as the body of the car. The headlights are conventional, single-concealed halogen lights. The rear window is fixed and the windows are tinted. Windshield wipers have two speeds, one of which is the mist setting and the other is the fixed intermittent wipe.

Interior

    The 1997 Mazda Miata is a two-seater that came with bucket seats. A stereo audio system with an AM/FM radio and anti-theft protection that requires a code to remove. A storage box under the full console in the floor is covered. Cup holders are in the front and the Mazda Miata has a door ajar warning to advise when a door has not been closed completely. There are driver's side and passenger's side front airbags on the driver's side as well as the passenger's side. The car has a lockable glove compartment that comes with a lid, a passenger vanity mirror, a ventilation system with a recirculation setting and four fan speeds and a remote-control fuel door release.

Performance and Handling

    The 1997 Mazda Miata has a 1.8-liter engine with four valves per cylinder, a double overhead cam and a multi-point fuel injection system. The engine produces 133 horsepower at 6,500 rpm.The fuel tank holds 13 gallons of regular unleaded fuel. The vehicle's front and rear suspensions are wishbone-shaped with a stabilizer bar that is independent with coil springs. Two ventilated discs are included with the four disc brakes.
