The Nissan Maxima has been manufactured by the Nissan car company since 1980. A full-sized, four-door sports sedan, the 1998 Nissan Maxima SE is a fourth generation Nissan vehicle that can hold up to five passengers. The Maxima has undergone a number of changes over its many years, but it has also become the flagship car for Nissan's lineup.

Model and Production

    The sporty 1998 Nissan Maxima SE has a rear spoiler, wider tires than its sibling models, and improved suspension. This sedan underwent a number of changes for the 1997 model year: it received an exterior facelift with a new front end, brighter headlights, different grille, new trunk lid and taillights. For the 1998 model year, there weren't many changes. Front side airbags were made available as an option.

Engine

    The standard engine for the 1998 Nissan Maxima SE is a 3.0 liter V-6 with 190 hp at 5,600 rpm. With dual overhead cam and 24 valves (4 per cylinder), the engine used sequential multi-point fuel injection. The engine also had a bore of 93 mm, a 73.4 mm stroke and a compression ratio of 10.0:1.

Dimensions

    The 1998 Nissan Maxima SE is 189.4 inches long, 69.7 inches wide and 55.7 inches high. The curb weight for those models with an automatic transmission is 3,072 pounds, while the curb weight for models with a manual transmission is 3,014 pounds.

Interior Space

    With room for five passengers, the Nissan Maxima SE has 40.1 inches of front headroom and 43.9 inches of front legroom for the driver and a passenger. Backseat passengers have 37.4 inches of headroom and 34.3 inches of legroom.

Wheels and Brakes

    The 1998 Nissan Maxima SE came standard with 16-inch alloy wheels and four-wheel disc brakes. An anti-lock braking system (ABS) was optional.

Other Specs

    Nissan's 1998 Maxima SE offered a five-speed manual overdrive transmission and the option of a four-speed automatic overdrive transmission is optional. Average fuel economy is 21 to 22 mpg in the city and 27 to 28 mpg on the highway. The fuel tank holds 18.5 gallons of unleaded fuel.
