BMW 318 Specs

The BMW 3 Series is a compact executive line of cars that has been manufactured by the German carmaker since 1975. It is the most popular car of the BMW models, accounting for nearly 40 percent of all cars sold by BMW in 2005. The 318 is one of BMW 3 Series models.

Engine

    The BMW 318 has a 1.9-liter in-line four-cylinder engine that has 138 horsepower. It comes with a standard five-speed manual transmission or four-speed automatic transmission. A 14.5 gallon fuel tank runs on premium unleaded fuel, providing a fuel economy of 23 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway. It has an 80-amp alternator and a 65-amp battery.

Steering and Suspension

    The BMW 318 provides a sports ride with front strut suspension, front and rear coil springs and front and rear anti-roll bars. The steering is a rack-and-pinion system and the brakes are a four-wheel disc setup, with front vented disc brakes. The wheels are 16-inch steel hubs. The car also includes a four-wheel anti-lock braking system.

Interior

    The interior of the BMW 318 has a seating capacity of five with heated front driver and passenger seats and six-way seat direction controls. The easy-entry rear seats are a 50:50 bench with adjustable headrests. The trim of the car is leatherette on the doors, a full cloth headliner and a cloth/leather combination trim on the seats. The floor trim is carpet and the gear knob has a leather trim.

Comfort and Conveniences

    The BMW 318 can be equipped with a power or manual sunroof, with dual-illuminated vanity mirrors and a day/night tilt rearview mirror. There are reading lights in the front and rear and a fading dome light. Cup holders are available in the front, and the car includes a seat storage area on the back of both front seats. Manual air conditioning is available in the front. The audio system includes an CD compatible AM//FM receiver radio with cassette deck and 10-speaker system. A fixed antenna on the roof provides the radio signal. Cruise control is available on the car, with the instrument display being analogue that contains a tachometer, trip computer and engine temperature gauge. Front-impact airbags are included as part of the car's safety devices, with an extra being a high rear braking light.
