The key to finding a quality used Land Rover is to research extensively. New Land Rovers are luxury cars with off-road capabilities, making them expensive. Fortunately, they have been on the market since 1987, so there are also many used models available. Once you have decided to become a Land Rover owner, you can start to look for the model you want by researching and comparing as many used Land Rovers as possible before you make a decision.

Instructions

    1

Ask friends and co-workers; they may know someone selling a used Land Rover. Join a local Land Rover owners association and contact people who own a Land Rover to find out about their experiences with particular models. Read about different models and their advantages or drawbacks.

    2

Look in local Land Rover dealerships or online at sites like Ebay, Auto Trader or Cars Direct. Visit online sites like Edmunds, Rovers Club or the Land Rover FAQ to view classified ads or to find a Land Rover broker who can help you find what you want.

    3

Look into the cars' history records to eliminate Land Rovers with potential problems. Several companies offer these reports, which are based on the VIN; try AutoCheck and Carfax. The report will include any history of flooding or serious damage to the car. Keep in mind that Land Rovers are often used for off-road driving, so a thorough history report is strongly recommended.

    4

Once you have found a Land Rover you're interested in, review its owner's manual to make sure regular maintenance checks have been performed. These should be stamped into the manual. Look underneath the vehicle for any leaks. Steering box, swivel-pin housing and rear axle leaks can mean expensive repair work will soon be needed.

    5

Look over the Land Rover you are serious about in person. Some of these models will be some distance away from where you live, especially if you contact a seller online. It's always best to take a long drive and look at the vehicle before deciding to purchase it. If possible, ask someone knowledgeable about Land Rovers to view the vehicle with you.
