How to Negotiate with Car Dealers to get the Best Deal on a New Car

Negotiating a price with car dealers is, for the most part, challenging for all individuals. Car dealers tend to arrange their prices to confuse the consumer. However, by negotiating with the dealership, consumers can save hundreds, maybe even thousands of dollars on a new car.

Instructions

    1

There are two prices on the sticker of the car. One is the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) and the other is the Dealer Invoice Price. Try to negotiate down from the MSRP as close to the Dealer Invoice Price as possible.

    2

Once you have negotiated the car price down, next find out about dealer incentives. Are there any specials on interest rates, cash back, etc.

    3

Make sure you find out about options, safety equipment and especially "dealer extras". Dealer extras will do absolutely nothing for you except cost you more money. Dealer extras are usually undercoating, rustproofing, extended warranties and fabric protection. Don't agree to these add-ons.

Lastly, never mention you have a trade-in vehicle until you've agreed on a price with the car dealer. The most important factor here is to know what your trade-in is worth. The best website I can mention is www.kbb.com. Kelley's Blue Book is a great website for finding out what your current vehicle is worth, whether you are selling it privately or to a dealership.

It is important to walk into the car dealership with confidence. Don't let the car dealers see that you are nervous or unsure of yourself. You want to walk out knowing that you just got a great deal on a new car.
