The Peugeot 205 was a subcompact car, or "supermini" vehicle, produced from 1983 through 1998. Its compact dimensions and reasonable power under the hood gave it good acceleration for a car marketed as an economy vehicle.

Power

The Peugeot 205's most common engines were the 1.6- and 1.9-liter in-line four-cylinders. The 1.9-liter version generated 130 horsepower and 119 ft.-lbs. of torque. The 1.6-liter four-cylinder provided 113 horsepower and 99 ft.-lbs of torque. Other engine displacements included 1, 1.1, 1.3 and 1.8 liters.

Performance

The 1986 Peugeot 205 GTi equipped with the 1.9-liter powerplant could achieve 0 to 60 mph in 7.6 seconds and the quarter mile from a standstill in 16.3 seconds. Its top speed was 123 mph. The 1.6-liter version hit 0 to 60 in 8.9 seconds and the quarter mile in 17.4 seconds. Its top speed was 121 mph.

Dimensions

The Peugeot 205 came in various trim levels as three- and five-door hatchbacks. Its dimensions were consistent through its production run. It sat on a 95.3-inch wheelbase and measured from front to rear bumper 145.9 inches long. Its curbside weight was light, ranging from about 1,930 to 1,985 lbs.
