Searching for a used truck used to mean trudging from car dealer to car dealer, or combing the classified ads in your local newspaper. Today, searching for a quality used truck is much quicker and can be done from any computer with Internet access. Many car dealerships certify their pre-owned vehicles, meaning they're inspected for any problems prior to being put on sale. Searching can help you narrow down the field of trucks you're interested in, but it's still a good idea to have your own mechanic look over a vehicle before you purchase it.
Instructions
- 1
Visit the Carfax "Find a Car" website. Use the drop-down menus on the left to choose the year, make and model of truck you're interested in.
2Type your zip code into the box, and use the next drop-down menu to choose the radius for your search. Then click the "Search" button. A list of vehicles will appear with contact information for the seller.
3Click on the "Free Carfax Vehicle History Report" link at the bottom of any listing to see the truck's history. This is a way to weed out lemons and find a good truck.
4Alternatively, visit the Vehix used-car website. Choose the radius of your search from the drop-down menu on the left and enter your zip code into the box beside it.
5Click on the link for the make of vehicle you're interested in. You can also click on the "Category" and "Price" boxes if you would rather search that way. A list of vehicles will appear that includes price, specs and a link for a free Carfax report.
6Visit the websites of your preferred vehicle manufacturer, like Ford or Toyota, and search their certified pre-owned vehicles. If you find one you like, the company can usually have it sent to the dealer nearest you.
