2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo Specifications

Awarded "SUV of the Year" by "Truckin's" SUV magazine, and "4x4 of the Year" by "Petersen's 4-Wheel and Off-Road" magazine in 2005, the Jeep Grand Cherokee "left many competitors in the dust," according to Rick Pewe, the latter's editor-in-chief. Jeep redesigned its Grand Cherokee in 2005, making it bigger, more powerful and safer than in earlier years, and the 2006 takes it even further.

Engine

    The 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo has a 3.7-liter, V6 engine. It comes with a 20.5-gallon tank and requires 87 unleaded fuel. The engine has 210 horsepower at 5,200 revolutions per minute, and 235 foot-pounds of torque. The Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo gets 21 miles per gallon on the highway and 17 miles per gallon in the city. This Jeep has a 5-speed automatic transmission. The 4.7-liter, overhead-cam V8 is optional.

Handling & Brakes

    The Grand Cherokee Laredo comes with a 4-wheel, anti-lock brake system (ABS), brake-assist system and electronic-brake distribution. Additional features that contribute to safety and smooth handling are immobilizer, electronic-traction control via ABS and stability control.

Exterior

    Exterior features on the Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo include power back-door mirrors, heat-reflective glass, roof rails, rear-platform step, underbody protection for engine, hinge-rear window with intermittent wipers and defogger, tinted glass, pearl paint and windshield wipers with variable-intermittent wipe.

Interior

    This Jeep comes with an audio system, with AM/FM and a CD player. It has anti-theft protection, and 3-point, height-adjustable, front seat belts that come standard on the Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. The front seats also come with height-adjustable head restraints and the rear seats with head restraints. The front headroom is 39.7 inches, front hip room is 57.6 inches, front legroom is 41.7 inches and front shoulder room is 59.1 inches. The rear headroom is 39.3 inches, rear hip room 60.6 inches, rear legroom 35.5 inches and rear shoulder room 58.5 inches. The Jeep has 67.4 cubic feet of cargo room with the rear seat down, and 34.5 of cubic feet with the seats up. It also comes with a 12-volt power outlet.

Safety Features

    The 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo comes with an electronic stability program (ESP), 4-wheel anti-lock disc brakes (ABS) with brake assist, front air bags, traction control and a tire-pressure monitoring system. Added optional safety features include side-curtain air bags, GPS navigation, UConnect hands-free communication system, Smart Beam headlamps and ParkSense rear park assist. The 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo also comes equipped with a trunk release. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, NHTSA, gives the 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo a rating of five out of five for frontal- and side-impact on their crash report. Their rollover resistance rating is three out of five.
